ADDRESSING PATIENT LIGHT SENSITIVITY TO ALLEVIATE DRY EYE SYMPTOMS INCLUDING HEADACHES, MIGRAINES AND CONCUSSIONS
Issues, Symptoms and Solutions
Digital devices and energy efficient light sources are linked to potential problems because they emit artificial Blue light that can result in issues and symptoms.
The following table identifies the issue, its symptoms and recommendation for TrueBlue lenses to provide relief.
Issue
Dry Eye
- Two distinct mechanisms
- External Symptoms
- Internal symptoms
Symptom
External “Dry eye” Symptoms
- Irritation
- Tearing
- Burning
- Dryness
Internal Symptoms
- Vision strain (accommodation, or vergence associated with DES)
- Headache behind the eyes linked to vision stress
Issue
Migraine
There are several causes of migraine. TrueBlue technology may help with sensitivity to light (i.e. photosensitivity or photophobia).
Symptom
- Pain on one or both sides of the head
- Throbbing or pulsating pain
- Sensitivity to light
- Eye pain
- Blurred vision
- Light headedness
Issue
Concussion
Symptom
Post Concussion Syndrome
- Sensitivity to light
- Headaches and or Migraines
- Dizziness
- Lack of focus / concentration
- Lethargy
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Personality change
- Insomnia
- Irritability
- Nausea
- Drowsiness
Issue
LONG TERM VISION PROTECTION
In an important scientific Study from the University of Toledo demonstrates the light induced intracellular molecular signalling of 445nm light consequence with all-trans Retinal and long term retina damage.
Because the fovea and macula are exposed to more 445 nm wavelength light than any other portion of our body (due to our optical focusing mechanism that columnnates the 445 nm Blue light to our fovea at macula), it explains why we get macular degeneration and not peripheral retinal degeneration.
Symptom
- Potential long term retina damage
- Potential macular degeneration
Issue
Artificial light Conditions and Glare When Driving
Evening and night time driving can be bothersome with oncoming HID headlight glare and overhead glare from LED street lighting. TrueBlue technology may help with sensitivity to light (i.e. photosensitivity or photophobia), and its daytime artificial light lenses have been beneficial. Patients should consult with a Doctor Optometry before using for night driving.
Symptom
- “blinding light” for oncoming vehicle headlights – specifically High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights
- Light flare
- Sensitivity to overheard street lighting
- Eye pain
According to the American Optometric Association the most common symptoms associated with DES are eyestrain, headaches, blurred vision, dry eyes and pain in the neck and shoulders.1
