Circadian Rhythm

Why Is Blue Light before Bedtime Bad for Sleep?

The Jessica Schmerier article for Scientific American interviews two neuroscientists about the effect of Blue light on sleep patterns and the impact on our health. This is an important read about melatonin’s role in circadian rhythm. Artificial blue light exposure prior to a normal sleep cycle results in less beneficial REM sleep. The TrueBlue MPF® lens filters blue light and should aid in the suppression of Melatonin prior to the sleep cycle.

The National Sleep Foundation urges people to “Turn Off Before you Tuck In”. The viewpoints of Helene Emsellem, MD and Taylor Bos, BA, provide a compelling perspective on how even small amounts of artificial blue light from small electronic screen devices can miscues the brain into a wakeful state, with concerning impact on children.
